A blog from Bryan Stark founder of the Justice for Carly Gregg Facebook Group

I started the Justice for Carly Gregg Facebook group because what happened to her is not justice—it is cruelty wrapped in the appearance of law. At just 15 years old, Carly was in the middle of a mental health crisis, brought on in part by the effects of Lexapro. Something tragic happened. But instead of grace, understanding, or compassion, the system cast her aside.

God’s Word reminds us in Exodus 21–23 that His laws were given not just to control, but to build a community rooted in respect, mercy, and righteousness. Justice, in the eyes of the Lord, is never about punishment alone. It’s about restoration, truth, and love for our neighbor. Carly was a child, broken and in need of help. Instead of healing, she was handed over to a system that denied her dignity.

The prosecutors offered Carly a 40-year plea deal—more like a sentence of despair. They moved ahead with a trial without acknowledging her mental state. No presentencing report. No grace. No mercy. Just judgment.

In Florida, a 14-year-old who killed her grandmother was shown accountability—but also compassion. She received three years in a juvenile facility. That’s what justice can look like when guided by wisdom and love.

Carly’s stepfather Heath and her grandparents Mr & Mrs Breland want her to have a future. They dont want her life to be thrown away. But the state of Mississippi handed down a life sentence to a child and called it justice.

I support Carly because I believe in a God of second chances. Jesus Himself said, “Let the one without sin cast the first stone.” Carly deserves mercy. She deserves hope. She deserves a future. That is what true, God-honoring justice looks like.

Amen
